“Organization begins with awareness of what doesn’t work for us.” – You can apply this quote to any aspect of your life. But if you want my opinion, I would say that you apply it while drafting your resume.

Why? Well, I understand the pride you feel while adding those little wins to your resume, but the harsh truth is that nobody cares about those. You’d think that your recruiter would appreciate you more for your 2-month internship, but probably they wouldn’t even notice it.

You must have heard about the recent HR drama. A whole team of recruiters got laid off because they had no idea that their application tracking system (ATS) had a glitch and was auto-rejecting everyone who applied. So, hopefully, all that hype over ATS won’t be there anymore.

So, now you will actually have to impress human beings with your resume. Things might get a bit complicated for you, especially if you are preparing a management consultant CV because the big shots in those tall buildings are not easy to impress.

To make things easier (and I mean way easier) for you, I’ve compiled 13 management consultant résumé examples and templates.

Management consultant resume examples

To make things easier for you, I am adding samples for entry-level candidates, mid-career professionals, and senior-level managers.

Let’s check them out already.

Entry-level management consultant resumes

Template 1 – Learn how to space your management consultant resume

If you’re applying for entry-level management consulting jobs and have only gathered experience via internships so far, then you need to make your skills “pop” on your management consultant CV.

You should not shy away from mentioning the big achievements, but you might want to remove the tiny details. First of all, no one likes TMI, and those details may also pull away the focus from the important points.

So, don’t worry if your CV has empty spaces! Even the big shots had those once.

Template 2 – Pick the right font and color

While drafting your management consultant resume as a fresher, there’s a golden rule for you: Your CV should look as nice as possible. Does that mean you need to add a fancy font? No. Different colors, maybe? Absolutely not.

What I meant is that you should stick to a single format and use 2 colors maximum in your resume to highlight relevant sections. Also, you should skip adding your pictures to it (as opposed to the template below) as it may lead to biases.

Template 3 – Place your skills strategically

One of the most common questions that I’ve heard from almost all freshers is that they are not sure which skill to place at first. Well, the answer is simple. The more relevant the skill to the job, the closer it should be to the top.

To understand which skill is the most relevant, you should go through the job description thoroughly. If it’s not clear from the job posting, you can also Google the most relevant skills required for that job role.

Template 4 – Highlight your educational institutions

Another important rule that freshers always forget is to highlight their educational institutes and certification names. No, it’s not to help find your seniors in the new company; it is to help the recruiter skim through your resume.

It’s a win-win as it saves their time, and your resume also doesn’t get skipped for a “boring” look.

Template 5 – Learn to be subtle

Lastly, I understand that as a fresher, you will have the constant urge to oversell yourself. But doing that will harm your chances a lot. The best thing is to strategically place your qualifications and achievements and let them do the talk.

Mid-level management consulting resume examples

Template 6 – The most important step in resume building

Why am I writing a separate blog on management consultant resume examples when I could have just written a comprehensive resume guide and called it a day? It’s because the acceptance rates of big consulting firms are even lower than Ivy League schools

The whole process gets even tougher for mid-level management consulting positions. That is why it is extremely important that you proofread your resume before submitting it.

Template 7 – Highlight your skills

If you’re applying for a mid-level management consulting position, these three skills should be highlighted in your resume:

  • Leadership skills
  • The urge to learn
  • Adaptability skills

So, make sure that every role of yours that requires these skills is placed on top of your resume. You should also be mindful of the terms you’re using, as you’ll have limited space. Therefore, make sure that your message is getting across without the need to use jargon.

Template 8 – Show off your skills

Mid-level professionals don’t need to prove how “knowledgeable” you are. Therefore, you don’t need to highlight your educational institutions or GPAs.

Instead, you should focus on getting the spotlight on your achievements. Mention how you made a drowning project successful or how you played an important role in a group project. Never miss a chance to advertise yourself.

Template 9 – How do you describe management consulting on a resume?

Once, I came across a management consultant CV where the experience section was haphazard, and the recruiters were not sure which one to focus on. Therefore, even though you have almost reached the top position, you will still have to put in some effort.

That’s why the best way to list your experience is to keep the most recent one at top. You might think that it’s an obvious tip. But as I said I have seen a messed up CV which had the most relevant experience at the top, even though he was no longer holding the position.

So, be extra careful next time.

Template 10 – Pick the correct format

When I said that you don’t have to prove yourself anymore as you have already reached the mid-level, I didn’t mean that you should stop making any effort. That’s why your resume should be as presentable as a entry-level management consulting resume.

Avoid chunky paragraphs thinking that no one will look at your resume anymore. So, you know the drill. Keep it precise and keep it to the point.

Senior-level management consulting resume templates

Template 11 – Learn which part of your CV to highlight

Well, if you are just a rock throw away from the big shots, then you have to worry the least about your CV. That’s what you thought, right? Wrong! Your CV is still important.

The only thing that has changed is the focus point of your resume. Recruiters won’t look at your skills or qualifications anymore, they will only check the numbers that you bring in for the company. So, make sure that your CV is not filled only with big job titles.

Template 12 – Learn how to mention your previous employer

If you want to end up in the same room as the big shots, you’ll have to show off a bit. By wearing designer clothes? No. But if you have ever worked for the big names, let’s highlight that. You might think that your work should be enough, but it’s just how the world works.

Now, don’t come at me for reinforcing the stereotypes. Let me tell you a funny story.

This social media creator wanted to check if adding “Google” to his CV would make the recruiters ignore all the other things there. He even wrote “Spread Herpes STD to 60% of intern team,” and still received interviews from Reddit, MongoDB, Robinhood, etc.

Don’t take the wrong lesson from the story. I repeat, do not pull the same stunt. But make sure you highlight the right things on your management consulting resume.

Template 13 – Make your management consultant CV interesting

After going through a lot of management consulting resume examples, I came across one of the most ideal ones and I have attached it below. The best thing about it is that it will literally guide your eyes through it.

Another good thing about it is that reading this CV won’t feel like a chore – the achievements are neatly arranged, the skills are just beside experience, which will allow you to go through both the sections simultaneously, and the courses are listed right best his early day’s experience.

So, make sure reading your management consultant CV doesn’t become another job for the recruiter.

How to learn how to make the perfect management consulting resume?

Again, I don’t want to serve you a child’s guide to how to make a resume, but this is a management consulting CV we’re talking about, so you’ll need all the help you can get. So, let’s get you started with the basics.

Learn to do it yourself

DIY-s are my favorite, so I would never ask anyone to get their resume done by a third party. And, if you’re like me – particular and always skeptical of others, then you would agree with me.

So, if you’re serious about your management consulting career, you’ll do the ground-up work. 10X Consultant has a course, ‘Consulting in the Age of Gen AI,’ that introduces you to the real world of consulting.

Along with the skills required in management, it also prepares you for management consulting interviews using real-life examples and roleplays. So, it will also provide you with a perfect opportunity to test if your management consultant resume will work in the real world.

Some other reasons to join the course:

  • It’s affordable and open to everyone, even those without any prior knowledge of consulting.
  • It goes in-depth about different aspects of management consulting.
  • It prepares one for the future of consulting that will have GenAI.
  • It also gives an opportunity to learn from the actual corporate experience of the guide – Shen Pandi.

Hire a freelancer

If you’re still falling short of time to complete your resume yourself, your next best option is to hire a freelancer who is an expert in resume building. However, before you do so, you should ask for proven results from the person to understand if their resumes help convert leads.

You can also contact a career coach to help you with your management consultant resume building process.

Use a website

If you choose to get your management consultant CV ready via a website, it’d be best to use the paid ones. I’ve tried several free websites myself, and not only their template options are limited but also not up to the mark.

Building a management consultant resume is a journey

Yes, I have the habit of making a poem out of everything, but I mean it this time. You should enjoy your CV-building process not only because you’re learning something new but also because you get to relive your achievements again.

This feeling can also help you realize which achievement is more relevant to your profile, and thus, you will be able to craft a perfect strategy for your CV.

So, next time you’re stuck while writing one, come back here, and I’ll help you!
